How Stripe payouts actually work for coaches

If you're wondering when the money from your coaching clients actually lands in your bank account, you're not alone. Stripe payout schedules confuse a lot of coaches — especially when you're juggling one-time payments, monthly subscriptions, and payment plans all at once. The short answer: Stripe pays out on a rolling schedule, and you control the frequency directly inside your Stripe Express dashboard. Here's exactly how it works within Coachful's Stripe Connect billing setup.

TL;DR — Quick answer

  • Stripe sends payouts on a daily, weekly, or monthly cadence — you choose.
  • New Stripe accounts typically have a 7-day rolling delay before the first payout; this usually shortens to 2 business days once your account is established.
  • Coachful uses Stripe Connect, so funds go directly to your connected bank account — Coachful never holds your money.
  • You manage your payout schedule inside Stripe Express → Payouts, not inside the Coachful dashboard.
  • Instant payouts (for eligible accounts) let you get funds in minutes for a small fee.

Understanding Stripe Connect and how Coachful fits in

Coachful uses Stripe Connect with a direct-charge model. When a client pays for your program, offer, or session, the charge goes straight to your connected Stripe account — not to Coachful first. This means you have full visibility and control over your funds without waiting for a middleman to release them.

Each coach on Coachful connects their own Stripe account during onboarding. Once connected, every sale — whether it's a one-time program purchase, a recurring subscription, or a multi-installment payment plan — flows into your Stripe balance and then gets swept out to your bank on your chosen schedule.

Because you own the Stripe account, Stripe's standard policies and timelines apply to you directly. Understanding those timelines means no more guessing when next month's revenue will actually arrive.

Using Coachful for the first time? If you haven't connected Stripe yet, head to Coach Dashboard → Settings → Billing and follow the Stripe Connect onboarding wizard. It takes about 5 minutes and unlocks one-time, recurring, and payment-plan billing for all your offers. Learn more about Coachful's billing features.

The three payout schedule options

Once your Stripe account is verified and active, you can set your payout frequency to one of three options. Each has trade-offs worth knowing.

Daily payouts

With daily payouts, Stripe initiates a transfer to your bank every business day (Monday through Friday). Any funds that have cleared the standard processing window overnight get swept out in the next payout. This is the most popular option for coaches with high transaction volume because it keeps cash flow tight and predictable.

Keep in mind "daily" means every business day — not every calendar day. Payments made on Friday typically arrive in your bank by Monday or Tuesday, depending on your bank's processing time.

Weekly payouts

Weekly payouts consolidate your cleared funds into a single transfer on the day of the week you specify — Monday through Friday. If you run a lower-volume practice or prefer to reconcile your accounts once a week, this option reduces the noise in your bank statement and makes bookkeeping simpler.

For example, if you set weekly payouts on Wednesdays, every Wednesday morning Stripe will sweep all eligible cleared funds and send them as one transfer. You'll see a single line item in your bank account rather than dozens of small deposits.

Monthly payouts

Monthly payouts send a single transfer on a date you choose each month (e.g., the 1st or the 15th). This is a good fit if you run a cohort-based program where most clients pay at the same time, or if you prefer to match your payout to a fixed accounting cycle. Just be aware that if you're running expenses against your coaching revenue, a 30-day wait can create cash flow gaps.

The processing delay: why there's a waiting period

No matter which schedule you choose, Stripe applies a processing delay between when a payment is made and when it becomes eligible for payout. This window exists so Stripe can manage dispute and fraud risk.

  • New accounts: The initial payout delay is typically 7–14 days. This is normal and applies to all new Stripe users, not just coaches on Coachful.
  • Established accounts: Once Stripe builds confidence in your account history, the delay typically drops to 2 business days for US-based accounts. Other countries vary.
  • High-risk categories or large single charges: Stripe may apply a longer hold for unusually large transactions or if your account triggers a review. You'll receive an email from Stripe if this happens.

In practical terms: a client pays for your 12-week program on Monday. With a 2-day delay and daily payouts, that money is eligible for payout on Wednesday and hits your bank by Thursday. With a 7-day delay (new accounts), it would arrive the following Tuesday at the earliest.

You can always check the exact expected payout date for any individual payment inside your Stripe dashboard under Payments → [payment ID] → Expected payout date.

How to change your Stripe payout schedule

You change your payout schedule directly in Stripe — not inside Coachful. Here's how:

  1. Log in to your Stripe dashboard (or your Stripe Express dashboard if you completed onboarding through Coachful).
  2. Click your account name in the top-right corner and select Account settings.
  3. In the left sidebar, navigate to Bank accounts and scheduling.
  4. Under Payout schedule, click Edit.
  5. Choose Daily, Weekly (and pick a day), or Monthly (and pick a date).
  6. Click Save. The new schedule takes effect on the next payout cycle.

Changes to your payout schedule take effect going forward — they don't retroactively change payouts already queued. If you switch from weekly to daily on a Tuesday, your next daily payout will be the following business day.

Instant payouts: getting funds in minutes

If you need money faster than the standard schedule allows, Stripe offers Instant Payouts for eligible accounts. With Instant Payouts, cleared funds arrive in your bank account or debit card within 30 minutes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — including weekends and holidays.

The fee is currently 1.5% of the payout amount (minimum $0.50), charged by Stripe. Eligibility depends on your account standing and whether your bank supports it. To trigger an instant payout, go to your Stripe dashboard, navigate to Balance → Payouts, and click Pay out funds instantly.

Instant Payouts are a great option when you've just run a launch for a new coaching program and need immediate access to funds, or when an unexpected expense comes up between your regular payout cycles.

How different offer types affect your payout timing

Coachful supports several billing models, and each one interacts with Stripe's payout schedule slightly differently.

One-time payments

A client pays once — for a single session, a standalone program, or a flat-fee offer. The charge processes immediately, enters the 2-day (or 7-day, for new accounts) processing window, and then gets swept in your next payout. Simple and predictable.

Recurring subscriptions

Stripe bills the client on a fixed interval (weekly, monthly, quarterly). Each successful charge follows the same processing window and payout schedule as a one-time payment. Failed renewals trigger Stripe's automatic retry logic — typically 3 retries over 7 days — before the subscription is flagged. You'll see failed payment notifications in both your Stripe dashboard and Coachful's billing section.

Payment plans

Coachful's multi-installment payment plans split the total offer price into scheduled charges. Each installment is processed independently by Stripe, so each one goes through its own processing delay and gets paid out on your standard schedule. A 3-installment plan over 3 months means 3 separate payout events, not one delayed lump sum.

Coupons and discounts

Coupons reduce the charged amount; payouts reflect the discounted price. A 20% coupon on a $500 program means Stripe processes $400, and that's the amount that flows through to your bank (minus Stripe's processing fee).

Pro tip: Coaches using Coachful's multi-tier offers — for example, a self-study tier at $497 and a VIP tier at $1,997 — often see their average payout increase significantly after the first 90 days as word-of-mouth from cohort squads drives upsells. Setting daily payouts during a live launch keeps cash flow healthy through high-activity periods.

Stripe fees: what gets deducted before you're paid

Your payout amount is your gross revenue minus Stripe's processing fees. Stripe's standard fee for US cards is 2.9% + $0.30 per successful charge. International cards and some payment methods carry higher fees. Stripe deducts these automatically before the funds reach your balance — you never pay a separate invoice.

Coachful does not add a transaction fee on top of Stripe's fee on the growth and scale plans. You can see a full breakdown of deductions in Stripe under Balance → Transactions. Each transaction shows the gross amount, fee, and net amount that contributes to your payout.

For detailed, country-specific fee breakdowns, see Stripe's pricing page.

Troubleshooting: common payout problems and fixes

My payout is late or hasn't arrived

First, check your Stripe dashboard → Balance → Payouts to confirm the payout was initiated and its status (Paid, In transit, Pending, or Failed). If it shows "In transit," your bank is still processing — most banks settle within 1–2 business days of Stripe initiating the transfer. If it shows "Failed," your bank account details may be incorrect or your bank rejected the transfer. Update your bank details in Stripe and retry.

I see "Pending" funds but they're not being paid out

Pending funds haven't cleared the processing window yet. This is normal for new accounts in their first 7–14 days. Once funds clear to "Available" status, they'll be included in your next scheduled payout. You can't manually accelerate this window except via Instant Payout (which only applies to already-available funds).

Stripe is holding my payout for review

Stripe occasionally pauses payouts to verify account activity — especially after a sudden spike in revenue (like a program launch). Stripe will email you with instructions to verify your identity or business. Respond promptly with the requested documents. During a review, available funds are held but not lost. Contact Stripe Support directly if a review has been open for more than 5 business days without resolution.

My bank account details changed — how do I update them?

Update your bank account in Stripe dashboard → Settings → Bank accounts and scheduling. Add the new account, verify it (Stripe may send two micro-deposits), and set it as default. Any payouts initiated after the update will go to the new account. Coachful doesn't store your bank details — all of that lives in Stripe.

I'm not seeing payout data in Coachful

Coachful's billing section shows your Stripe transactions and offer revenue, but payout-level detail (transfer amounts, bank deposits) lives in your Stripe dashboard. This is by design — Coachful surfaces revenue data while Stripe manages the actual banking relationship. Navigate to your Coachful dashboard, go to Coach → Billing, and click Manage in Stripe to jump directly to your Stripe Express view.

I connected the wrong Stripe account

Contact Coachful support through your dashboard to disconnect the existing Stripe connection. You can then reconnect with the correct Stripe account via Settings → Billing → Connect Stripe. Note that any existing subscriptions or payment links tied to the old Stripe account will need to be recreated.

Best practices for managing coaching revenue with Stripe payouts

A few habits that experienced coaches on Coachful have found useful:

  • Match your payout cadence to your expense cycle. If you pay contractors (e.g., a virtual assistant) monthly, weekly payouts mean you're always sitting on available cash when invoices arrive.
  • Use daily payouts during launches. When you open enrollment for a new program or cohort, daily payouts keep your cash flow responsive and reduce the anxiety of watching a growing Stripe balance that hasn't hit your bank yet.
  • Reconcile weekly, not monthly. Even if you've chosen monthly payouts, log into Stripe weekly to spot any failed payments, disputes, or unusual activity early. Stripe's email notifications help, but a quick visual check takes 2 minutes and can save you hours of cleanup later.
  • Keep a small buffer in your business account. Refunds and chargebacks are deducted from your Stripe balance before payouts. A buffer prevents situations where a refund creates a negative balance that delays your next payout.
Coaches on Coachful's scale plan often run multiple offers simultaneously — evergreen programs, live cohorts, and 1:1 packages — each with different billing cadences. Stripe's payout reports make it straightforward to track which revenue streams are performing, since every charge is tagged with the product description you set in Coachful when you created the offer.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for Stripe to pay out on Coachful?
New Stripe accounts typically have a 7–14 day processing delay before the first payout. Once your account is established, the delay usually drops to 2 business days for US accounts. After funds clear this window, they're paid out on your chosen daily, weekly, or monthly schedule.
Can I change my Stripe payout schedule after I've already connected Stripe?
Yes. Log in to your Stripe dashboard, go to Settings → Bank accounts and scheduling, and click Edit next to Payout schedule. You can switch between daily, weekly, and monthly at any time. The new schedule applies to future payouts — it doesn't change anything already queued.
Does Coachful take a percentage of my Stripe payouts?
Coachful does not add a transaction fee on top of Stripe's standard processing fee on the growth and scale plans. Stripe charges its standard rate (2.9% + $0.30 per successful card charge in the US). Your payout is your gross revenue minus Stripe's fee.
What is an instant payout and how do I use it?
Stripe Instant Payouts let eligible accounts receive available funds within 30 minutes, any day of the week, for a fee of 1.5% of the payout amount (minimum $0.50). Trigger one from your Stripe dashboard under Balance → Payouts → Pay out funds instantly. Eligibility depends on your account standing and bank support.
Why are my Stripe funds showing as 'Pending' and not being paid out?
Pending funds are still within Stripe's processing window and haven't been cleared to Available status yet. This is normal — especially for new accounts in the first 7–14 days. Once funds move to Available, they'll be swept in your next scheduled payout. Instant Payouts only work on already-available funds.
What happens to Stripe payouts if a client requests a refund?
Refunds are deducted from your Stripe balance, not from your bank account directly. If your available balance is insufficient to cover the refund, Stripe will debit your connected bank account for the difference. Keeping a small buffer in your Stripe balance helps prevent this situation from delaying future payouts.
Can I have multiple bank accounts connected to Stripe on Coachful?
Stripe allows you to add multiple bank accounts to your account, but only one can be set as the default payout destination at a time. You can switch the default at any time in your Stripe dashboard under Settings → Bank accounts and scheduling. Coachful doesn't store your bank details — that's all managed directly in Stripe.
